Music
St Peter Mancroft’s thriving and vibrant music tradition dates back over 500 years.
The church offers an exciting range of musical activities for children and young people aged 5–18,
and for adults. The choirs also sing for concerts, weddings, and other special services throughout
the year. They are led by our Director of Music, Jody James, and our Organist, Julian Haggett.
St Peter Mancroft also hosts many concerts and recitals, including the successful Saturday
Lunchtime Mancroft Music series of recitals
(see our Mancroft Music page for more information).
Choral Scholarships
The Choral Scholarships, which pay £1,000 per annum and are tenable for up to three years, are a perfect opportunity for musicians aged 15–25 to develop their singing skills through performing a wide range of repertoire in a superb setting.
The Choral Scholars sing both as a distinct group and provide support for the church’s other choirs. They sing mainly during academic term‑time, with additional commitments at Christmas and Easter. Further details about the scholarships are available here. Applications are welcomed at any time, and there is currently no closing date.
Choristers
Membership of the choristers is open to children aged 7 and above.
As well as receiving professional singing and music theory tuition, choristers receive termly pocket money, can apply for financial assistance with learning an instrument, make new friends, and—above all—have fun!
The Choristers meet on Mondays after school. They learn a wide range of music and have the opportunity to work towards RSCM Voice for Life medals. Choristers usually sing for two Sunday services a month during term‑time, with additional commitments at Christmas and Easter.
